The story of a quiet child
(Dumbledore kid’s tales)

“Ridirwandaridi” is a theatrical monologue, written and played by Elisa Canfora.
It is inspired by two books “Storia di Lemi che si innamoro’ di una pallina”, by P. Sormani and “Luna Park Rwanda”, by R. Mauri.
The monologue tells the story of kids, adults, whole families and chicken thieves; all those whose lives have been destroyed and upset by the Genocide.
The main character is a nine years old child, Lemi, who survived the war, but not malaria.
Killed by a mosquito, not a machete, Lemi’s angel dressed as a kid comes back to the places he used to live and which he was obliged to leave in order to run away from violence, looking for safety and protection in a refugee camps.
In talking about himself, Lemi talks about all Rwandese children; he talks about his mother and father; Lemi talks about a thousand people suffering from war in Africa and in the whole world; he talks about Butare, his own town; he talks about African environment and tradition.
“Ridirwandaridi” looks at war through the eyes of a child. Lemi has passed through a traumatic event, but he doesn’t understand the reason for it and he vainly looks for answers that never come.
